Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 9th March 2011
Five of the six prize-winning golfers of last week’s events scored 38 points, with Patrick Boyle exceeding that total by three. His win in the Wednesday Open featured golf of the highest calibre, with birdies at Loch Eala and Lunula. Twenty-two points coming home added to the twenty on his front nine and he proved a worthy winner.
Sunday’s competition saw Kieran Cunnea finish the stronger of the three golfers on the same total. The birdie at Sweeney’s Bank was his second of the day following an earlier success at Bernie’s Holm. The P.R.O. ventured out on his first excursion of the year to be greeted with the usual derision and frivolity. And that was just from his playing partners! The course is in superb condition, with fast greens and well-defined fairways and surrounds. Hats off to the greens staff, their convenor and council.
An Ulster Alliance event was held on Saturday featuring many low handicappers and professionals. Damian Mooney struck again, reducing the course to just 67 strokes. The weather was ideal and from the off, Damian was in full control, firing his driver to four feet at the first for an opening eagle!
An insurance scheme for golfers is available in the clubhouse through Golfsure Insurance Company and coverage commences soon. The annual fee is just 20 euro, so contact the Pro Shop to add your name to the long list of golfers who have already subscribed.
