Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 7th July 2009
We congratulate Margaret Roarty on her success in the Lady Captain’s Prize on Saturday. Her electrifying performance did not cause a major shock, for when she is on her game, sparks will fly. Nan Quinn almost stole her thunder, but the in-form Narin lady hasn’t finished with the Majors this year, methinks.
James Keeney won the Ladies’ Prize to the Gents on Wednesday with a great score of 43 points and his win proved a popular one. Birdies on 8, 13 and 16 gave him a slight edge over Wexford visitor, Paul Kelly.
The details of upcoming competitions may be viewed on the club website, which has been re-launched to positive reviews. Its address is www.narinportnoogolfclub.ie More video will be added over the next few weeks (which members are welcome to submit to our YouTube account). Further changes are also in the pipeline, including an online booking system. We welcome input, positive or otherwise, from members and visitors.
Pat Connaghan’s over-50s team won through against Buncrana Municipal during the week to send the club captain into paroxysms of delight at the prospect of silverware on his fancy mantelpiece. Up 4-1 from the home leg, Willie and James Quinn quickly secured a vital win and the rest of the squad did the rest to record a comfortable victory. They now await the identity of their opponents in the county semi-final.
The minor league team also progressed to its respective semi-final, getting three matches away to Bundoran after a difficult home leg. Patsy’s side are motoring along steadily and will cause problems for whomever they face in the last four.
The July Junior Golf Camp is fully booked, but there are still spots remaining on the camp to be held on the 24th and 25th of August. Contact Connor or Daragh at 074-9545107 for details.
The Ardara Society is off to Castlehume on Saturday, July 11th to pit its members’ substantial wits against one of the Northwest’s finest courses. Those interested in travelling should note that the tee-off time is 11a.m. Contact Frank or Eamonn for further details.
