Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 6th October 2009
The final Medal event of the year was sponsored by the Highlands Hotel, Glenties and the winner had the added attraction of being awarded the William O’Donnell Trophy into the bargain. Peter Shovlin was the deserving victor and he will now occupy the 8th spot in the matchplay draw for the upcoming Golfer of the Year competition. His front nine was steady, if unspectacular but coming home, his game was exemplary. A six over par gross score on the last nine holes ensured the 23 handicapper had a one-shot win over Anthony Molloy in second.
The Wednesday Open was won by a golfer who has been securing good scores over nine holes but hitherto had been unable to complete the job over eighteen. Not so last week as Edward Sparshott blitzed the opening nine in 22 points and was able to maintain this good form on the return. He had a full five points to spare over the runner-up, John Gallagher.
