Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 5th June 2011
Sunday July 3rd Competition was sponsored by United Fish Industries and so it was fitting that the first prize returned to Killybegs. The “quiet man” (some say assisted by “climate control”) took full advantage of the perfect golfing conditions on Sunday. Out in an unspectacular 19 points, Sean upped his game with an excellent birdie 4 on 10 which was further bolstered with pars on 12, 13, 14, 16 & 17 on the back nine for a total of 40 points. A quick word of consolation to the numerous players who finished on 39 points on the day including Cathal Donoghue (who ambled around the links) and our premier, President Bart Whelan who was beaten into 3rd on a BOT.
Results: 1st Sean Cafferty (11) 40 pts , 2nd Cathal Donoghue (13) 39 pts bot, 3rd Bart Whelan (15) 39 bot, Cat A Jim Harley (11) 39 pts, Cat B Tony Dooley (17) 39 bot, Cat C George Doherty (18) 39 bot.
Wednesday June 29th Open Competition was won by the ever improving golfer Anthony Thompson with 42 points. We hope this is a good omen for the County football team.
Results: 1st Anthony Thompson (13) 42 pts, 2nd Michael Doyle (13) 40 pts, 3rd P. J. Murray (20) 39 pts
Junior competitions will commence again for the summer months starting this Thursday (for students not too busy preparing for the next academic year!)
Finally, we are all looking forward to welcoming the professionals to our annual PRO-AM this coming Friday and Saturday. With 45 teams (2 late places still available) and a number of top professionals playing including Simon Thornton, European Tour player and the legendary Philip Walton of Ryder Cup fame, we can rightly expect a memorable couple of days of golf!
