Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 14th September 2010
The revival of the old Am-Am team competition proved a great success with 37 teams enjoying the two day event. The weather stayed mild, which facilitated low scoring on the pristine links. The local team of Martin Sweeney, Tommy Barrett, Alan Elliott, Willie Molloy proved the champions by just two points from the captain’s team in second. The winners were consistency personified, returning scores of 110 on Saturday and 111 the following day. All four golfers were in good form and the dovetailing was a notable feature. The runners-up led after day one, with John Molloy’s eagle on the long 13th contributing handsomely to the eventual score of 114 points. The club thanks all those who sponsored prizes and teams and hopes that the competitors show their gratitude in the coming year by supporting them in turn.
Portsalon’s Barry Keeney enjoyed his trip back to Portnoo when winning the Wednesday Open last week. Local knowledge came to the fore for the Glenties native as he effortlessly constructed a fine round of 42 points to win by four from Sean McGinley.
Sunday’s event was sponsored by Coastal Windows and the two-ball of Mickey Campbell and Frankie Kennedy had a clear win over the best of the rest of the field. Their score of 64 was nine under par nett, a fantastic score and they were worthy winners.
Seamus McDonagh’s Captain’s Outing to Ballyliffin is scheduled for October 9th and 10th. The cost is 110 euro per person sharing for two rounds of golf, bed and breakfast, an evening meal and prize-fund. Non-golfers are welcome to come for just 80 euro. Places are limited, so please contact the professionals as soon as possible.
