Narin & Portnoo Golf Club Notes 14th April 2011
Patsy Furey won last Sunday’s Errigal Eisc Teo. Competition by a single point in conditions which proved difficult for all the field. The course was almost at full length and the breeze which rose and fell at irregular intervals made scoring problematic. Patsy’s first nine holes proved the making of his score, his par on the index one fourth hole ‘Runway’ an obvious highlight. Twenty-two points with the wind at his back gave him a nice cushion and he went on to score sufficient points coming home to win narrowly. Mick Kennedy was in the prizes again, much to daughter Charlene’s delight!
Jarlath Cannon of Letterkenny Golf Club enjoyed his trip down to Narin last Wednesday with the six-handicapper finishing seven over for his round in difficult conditions. A blank at the first wasn’t a great start but birdies at the second and tenth and a plethora of pars recovered the situation for a well-merited success.
Patsy Harkin’s Ulster Fourball team enjoyed a 3.5 to 1.5 win over Bundoran in the first leg of their first round match last Sunday. All five pairings went undefeated on the day, with three halving their matches. Sean McGinley and Tom Rawdon had a fine five and three victory before Pat Connaghan and Kevin McCready went even better with a six and five success. The pairings of Dominic Mullin and Alan Erskine, Paddy B. Boyle and Seamus Ryan and Frank McGinley and Paul McGinley all halved their matches. The return match has not been scheduled as yet and we wish the lads well in Bundoran.
The professionals are running a junior golf camp on the 26th and 27th of April. If previous years are anything to go by, it should be a big success! The course includes a carefully structured programme of events, fun competitions and games. The cost is 50 euro per child, which includes lunch each day a complimentary academy shirt.
