Glenties Notes on September 6th 2001

GLENTIES HARVEST FAIR FESTIVAL
A Crafts Fair is being organised in the Market Hall Community Centre from 12.00 noon on Sunday Sept 9th. It is hoped that most of the local crafts people will set up a stall/table for a few hours on the day. Tables are free and interested parties should contact JOHN McCOOL at (086-8588834.)
A pool competition is organised in the Limelight for Mon 10th and 11th Sept. Enteries are £1 and the winner will get £100. Enteries must be given to Alan Kee (075-51140) by Friday 8th Sept at the latest.
Most business houses and clubs and organisations should have plans well advanced for entering a float in the annual street parade which will be held on Sunday 9th Sept. This is a major attraction which attracts many visitors to the town, and a greater participation is expected this year.
Last year 15 girls entered for the festival Queen Competition and feedback was good in that they were satisfied with the Judges etc.The Committee are happy to get the same judges for this year’s event. The Saches have to be
made for the contestents, so it is important that the business/house entering a Queen to get in contact with AMANDA McGUIGAN at (086-4057032) immediately.
Scallywags and local children will have 2 performances in the Market Hall on Sunday 9th at 4.00pm. The first performance is ‘The Two Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig’ and the second performances is ‘Cinder Teddy’. Adults
£3 and Children £1.50.
The Lazerzone mobile laser games arena will be in the limelight on Sunday 9th at 4.30 and will last for four hours.
Children will have free admission to inflatable games at the Girls School from 3.00pm to 5.00pm on Saturday 8th Sept.
There will be a Quiz for all National School children during the festival. All schools locally are requested to enter teams.

BARN DANCE
A barn dance will be held in the Community Centre on Friday 7th Sept at 10.00pm. Music by Country Traditions. ADM £3 with tea being served. There will be a raffle for a Portable TV.

TAI-CHI &QI GONG
Classes on Tai-Chi,Qi-Gong,& Kung Fu, starting this month. For bookings contact Charlie at the Castle (075 51596).

SPEECH AND DRAMA
Congratulations to the following students who were successful in Speech and Drama in ‘The New Era’ Academy of London examinations: Aileen Boyle,Highlands Hotel, Francine Connaghan, Main Street, Deirdre McGill, Tullyard Rd, Ronan O’Donnell,Mill Road, Shane &Gerard Molloy, Drimnacrosh, and Edel and Donna Kennedy, Meenahalla.
Registration for new term takes place next Saturday 8th Sept in the Highlands Hotel between 11.00am and 12.30pm. For further details contact Mairead O’Kane (087 2826270)

FIDDLE & GUITAR LESSONS
Fiddle and Guitar lessons will resume in the Community Centre, Glenties on Saturday 15th Sept. Enrolment is by prepaid five week periods. Any queries contact Ernan. (075-41037)

LOCAL TRAINING INITIATIVE
The Kilclooney Dolman Centre is recruiting for its next Computer/Local History/Video training course, which is due to start on Monday 17th Sept.

THE GLENTIES PLAYGROUP
The Glenties Community Playgroup/ After School will not be opening until October due to move to the New childcare Building on the Glen Road, (opposite Scoil Mhuire). For further information contact Bridie (075-51416)
