Glenties Notes on January 7th 2001

We had quite a fall of snow after Christmas. It started on Boxing Day but was not too heavy until the following morning. Most of it is gone today but there is still some about. The dance in the Limelight was cancelled on St. Stephen’s night and the G.A.A. Dinner Dance on Thursday night. The Wednesday night Bingo was also cancelled.

The annual Naomh Chonaill Presentation Dinner Dance, which was to have taken place on Thursday 28th December, will now be held on Friday 12th January in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties.

Congratulations to Martin Timony, Knockletragh who was ordained a Deacon on Sunday 31st December, the Feast of the Holy Family, by Bishop Philip Boyce in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh, Glenties.

Congratulations to Kathleen and Gary Phelan, Stranorlar, on the birth recently of their baby girl. Kathleen is the eldest daughter of Paddy and Teresa O’ Donnell, Derries, Glenties.

Congratulations to Terry and Aidan O’Donnell, New York on the birth on Sunday 31st December 2000 of their second child, a brother for Aisling. Aidan is from Lower Main Street, Glenties and Terry is from Tipperary.

Congratulations to Bernadette Bonner, Mill Road, Glenties and Peter Cunningham, Loughros Point, Ardara who got engaged recently.

Congratulations to P.J. and Teresa Furey, Mullanmore, Glenties who celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on the 27th December.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Martina Molloy, Mullanmore, on the death recently of her father, Gerry Floyd, Dunkineely which took place on Christmas Eve.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Rose Molloy, Ardconnell and Mary B. Sabine, Meenahalla, Glenties on the death of their brother, Paddy Gildea, formerly of The Rock, Glenties, which took place in Birmingham on Friday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Mary B. Connaghan, Mill Road, Glenties on the death of her brother, Michael O’Donnell, formerly of Drimalough, Glenties, which took place in Surrey on Saturday last.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives of James Mooney, Ard Patrick, Glenties who died at the home of his late brother Paddy, Doohil, Ardara on Sunday 31st December 2000.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the sister and other relatives of Mary Ward, Meenagrubby, who died in Bundoran.

The Glenties Traders Association wish to thank everyone who contributed to the Church Gate Collection taken up on the 8th December. The collection amounted to £252.00 and goes towards the Christmas Lights. They would also like to thank marathon runner, Michael Fitzgerald, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties for his contribution of £25.

The Pioneers are holding a Barn Dance in the Community Centre, Glenties on Friday 19th January. Music is by Country Traditions. Admission including supper is £4.00.
