Glenties Notes on August 10th 2000
The marriage of Bernadette Joyce and Ronan Molloy took place in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 29th July 2000. Bernie is a daughter of Martin and Christina Joyce, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties and Ronan is a son of John and Marie Molloy, Ardara. Fr. Patrick Prendergast P.P. Glenties officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. The bride was given away by her father and was attended by her sister Debra Joyce, and friends, Nicola O’Donnell and Monica Armstrong. Friend of the groom, Michael J. Barrett was bestman and his brother, Conor Molloy and Michael R. Barrett were groomsmen. Hannah Joyce Molloy was flowergirl and Pauric O’Dwyer was pageboy. Readings were by Clare and Kathleen Molloy, sisters of the groom and his nephews, John and Ciaran Molloy and friend, Kayla Baskin read Prayers of the Faithful. Both mothers brought the Gifts to the Altar. The reception was held in The Nesbitt Arms Hotel, Ardara and the honeymoon was spent in Dubai.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Annie O’Dwyer, Ard Mc Gill on the death of her sister-in-law, Breda Dunn, Limerick which took place in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. She was a sister of Annie’s late husband, Danny, and took ill while visiting in Glenties.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the sons and daughter and other relatives and friends of Fanny Mc Dermott, Edeninfagh, who died in Dublin on Sunday last.
This evening Thursday 10th Mass will be celebrated in The Old Graveyard on the Glen Road at 7.30p.m. August, weather permitting and Mass will be celebrated in Edeninfagh Graveyard next Sunday 13th August.
It is hoped to celebrate Mass in Kilraine Graveyard on the third week of August, details will be announced next weekend. Families who have graves in Kilraine are asked to assist in the preparation of the graveyard by attending to their own family plots.
The Legion of Mary was founded in Glenties on 11th August 1950. There will be a special Mass on Wednesday 16th August at 7.30p.m. to celebrate 50 years of the Legion of Mary in Glenties. Refreshments will be served afterwards.
Th Raphoe Diocesan Pilgrimage to Knock, led by Bishop Philip Boyce, takes place this year on Saturday 19th August. Bus will be leaving Edeninfagh at 8.10a.m. and Glenties Community Centre at 8.30a.m. For further information ring Mc Guinness’ 075-51284.
Congratulations to Josie and Mary Gill, Stranaglough, Glenties who celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary on Thursday 3rd August and to Hugh and Rose Gallagher, Loughcrillan Road, Glenties who celebrated their twenty fifth wedding anniversary on Sunday 6th August.
Gaeltacht Athletics Championships will be held in Dungloe GAA Park next Sunday 13th August at 2.00p.m. The championships are open to all Gaeltacht residents, for all ages. Events will include sprints, jumps, throws, walks and relays. For further details ring 074-33027 or 074-35292.
Next Sunday 13th August Ms. Joy Mc Cormick will officially open the 20th Annual Patrick MacGill Summer School in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties at 5.00p.m. There will also be the Presentation of MacGill Literary Awards by Ms. Patricia MacGill – McGowan, daughter of the writer. Later in the evening there is a Family Concert featuring Vincent & Peter Campbell, Master Fiddlers and Entertainer, Aussie Bryson. The School continues until Friday.
