New Arrival
Congratulations to Alison and Ciaran Mc Monagle, Letterkenny, on the birth of their second child, a baby sister (Katie) for Conor. Alison is a daughter of Hugh Brendan and Rose Mc Dyer, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties.
The Late Johnnie Gallagher
The death took place unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday 24th August 2011 of Johnnie Gallagher, Lower Mully, Glenties. His Remains were brought to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Friday morning. Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11 a.m. Family members did the Readings. Burial took place in the New Graveyard. Johnnie is survived by one brother, Ownie, Lower Mully, Glenties and one sister Bridget Sweeney, Letterilly, Glenties, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. Four sisters, Annie, Rosie, Maggie and Kitty and one brother, Paddy predeceased him.
Bingo
Winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 30th August were – Nora Gallagher won the Jackpot of € 400. Anne Quinn, James Byrne, Annie Boyle, Margaret O’Donnell, Kathleen Cunningham, Kilcar, M. Mc Geehan, Ann Breslin and Philomena Mc Callaig won € 100 each. Anna Mc Dyre, Maas, Nellie Doherty, Terence Breslin, Anne Quinn, Margaret Mc Brearty, Kilcar, Annie Deane, Shaun Maloney, Bridie Gallagher, John Mc Cole, Dim Melly, Bernadette Mc Devitt and Angela Quinn won € 50 each. Catherine Griffin and Bella Boyle won € 25 each. Charlie Mc Brearty, Majella Boyle and Joseph Martin won € 20 each.
Harvest Fair Festival
The Annual Harvest Fair Festival gets under way on Thursday 8th September with a Wheel Changing Competition on Main Street at 7 p.m. and a Slow Bicycle Race at 7.30. The official opening is at 8 p.m. Over the next few days there will be all sorts of competitions and races, even a sheep race! Tug-O-War, Clay Pigeon Shoot, music and dances. Kid’s movie is on Friday at 4 p.m. in the Highlands Hotel. ‘Footloose’ the Musical is on Friday at 7 p.m. and on Saturday at 8 p.m. in the Community Centre. Family Fun Day is on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the GAA Pitch. On Sunday the Cycle Challenge starts at 10 a.m. and the Vintage Tractor Run is at 12p.m. The Band and Float Parade is at 4 p.m. and the Queen Dance is at 10 p.m. in the Highlands Hotel. On Monday, the Harvest Fair Day there is Sheep Shearing and Rope Making and Farmer’s Market. Details are in the Programmes, which are available in the shops. www.glentiesharvestfair.com
Tír Chonaill GAP CC – Annual Harvest Fair Cycle Challenge
Our clubs main event for the year will be taking place on Sunday 11th of September 2011. Registration: 9am. There will be three routes this year, 30k, 60k and 120k, so something for every level. Maps of the three routes are available on the club website: www.TirChonaillGAPcc.com Start Times: 120k Starts 10a.m. 60k Starts 10:20
30k Starts 10:25. The fee for the cycle is €20 (€25 for Non Cycling Ireland Members)
There will be refreshments and shower facilities for all cyclists at the end of the run.
We hope to see a big turn out for this years challenge to make it a brilliant event for everyone!
Message from An Garda Síochána
The following Traffic Restrictions will be in place in Glenties for the Harvest Fair – Sunday 11th September from 3.30 p.m. until 6 p.m. and Monday 12th September from 8a.m. until 9.30 p.m. – Closure of Main Street, diversions in place at Kilraine and Maas. Parking restrictions also in place on all approaches to Glenties during these times. Traffic not attending the fair is requested to avoid Glenties during these times.
Safe Pass Course
A Safe Pass Course will be held in Highlands Hotel on Friday 9th September. Contact Tim on 0872458839 or Deirdre on 0866033927 to book a place. Limited number of places available.
Glenties Foróige Club
Glenties Foróige Club resumes for 1st 2nd and 3rd years. Registration on Thursday 8th September at 8 p.m. in the Highlands Hotel. Parents must attend with their children. € 15 per child and € 25 per family.

Thank you to all those who took part and donated prizes to the Table Quiz held recently in ‘Dinny’s’ The Glen Tavern in aid of The National Council of the Blind of Ireland (N.C.B.I.) The amount raised was € 400.

Congratulations and well done to all the boys and girls of our under 10 team who brought the cup home from a Tournament in Belfast on Saturday last and especially to Amy Boyle Carr who was selected as ‘Player of the Tournament’.

Sing for Fun
A Sing for Fun Choral Group is starting in the Highlands Hotel Glenties on Thursday 15th Sept at 8 p.m. for both male and female. A knowledge of how to read music is not required. So, if you like to sing, come along and join us. We are looking forward to seeing you.
