Glenties Notes 7th October 2010

County Champions
Congratulations to the Boys in Blue who, last Sunday evening, 3rd October 2010, for the second time, brought the Dr. Maguire Cup to Glenties.  Well done to them and to everyone who helped them get this far.  A huge cavalcade of cars accompanied them on their way home and bonfires were lit along the road.  A few stops had to be made, as people were out in Brockagh, Fintown and other areas to greet them.  Another crowd gathered in the town to welcome them.

Mary Quinn Memorial Cup
Aoife Mc Donnell, Captain of the Ladies Team, who won the All Ireland Ladies Intermediate Final and some of her team mates, brought the Cup to her home town on Tuesday.  They visited Scoil Mhuire, where she got her Primary education and St. Columba’s Comprehensive School where she received her Secondary education.  They also visited the Day Centre in Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent.  Later in the evening most of the team were in town, where they received a tremendous reception.  A very large crowd was there to greet them and congratulate them.

Walsh / Dooley Wedding
Tara Dooley and Neil Walsh were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Saturday 25th September 2010.  Fr. Nigel O’ Gallachóir Dungloe officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass.  Tara is a daughter of John and Adele Dooley, Narin Road, Glenties and Neil is a son of Danny and Mary Walsh, Sheskinarone, Dungloe.  Her father gave the bride away and her sisters, Deborah, Colleen and Tamahine Dooley were her bridesmaids.  Danny Walsh, brother of the groom was bestman.  Enda Walsh, cousin of the groom and Conor Dooley, brother of the bride were groomsmen.  Sarah Walsh, niece of the groom was a flowergirl.  Readings were by Karl, brother of the bride and Bella Ward, friend of the bride and groom.  Lorraine Furey, Mairéad Costello, Julie Mc Namara, Sharon O’Sullivan, Jane Quinlisk, Deirdre O’Donnell and Jacinta Furey, friends of the bride read Prayers of the Faithful.  Adele Dooley, mother of the bride and Rosie O’ Donnell, cousin of the groom brought the Gifts to the Altar.  A friend of the bride Joetto Schalla from the U.S.A. read a Reflection after Communion.  Music and singing was by Cliodhna Henna.  The reception was held in the Mill Park Hotel, Donegal Town and the honeymoon was spent in Tunisia.

Bingo
Winners at the Bingo on Tuesday 28th September were – Christine Mc Cool won the Jackpot of € 400.  May Kennedy, Ann Mc Hugh, Breege Gallagher, Michael Mc Ginley, Sandra Moore, Sarah Mc Glynn, Margaret Murray, Mary Ellen Bonner, Nan Doherty and Leticia Doherty won € 100 each.  Christine Mc Cool, Sean Carr, Kathleen Boyle, Nora Gallagher, Sally Mc Guigan, Maura Mc Geehan and Kathleen Griffin won € 50 each.  Mary Mc Mahon, May Kennedy, Nora Mc Hugh and James Gallagher won € 25 each.  Bridie Boyle, Pauline Mc Geehan and Joseph Martin won € 20 each.

Confirmation
The Sacrament of Confirmation for the Parish of Iniskeel will be administered for 5th & 6th Classes in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday 10th April 2011 at 11 a.m.

Annie Behan
The death took place at the Donegal Hospice, Letterkenny of Annie Behan, Ard Patrick, Glenties on Friday 24th September 2010.  Her Remains were brought home later that day and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Sunday.  Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 12.30 p.m.  Readings and Prayers of the Faithful were by Annie’s grandchildren.  Her son John and daughter Breid brought the Gifts to the Altar.  Music and singing was by Pat and John F. O’Donnell and Ben and Laura Craig.  Burial took place in the New Graveyard.  Annie is survived by daughters, Eileen, Marie, Ann and Breid, one son John, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sons-in-law, daughter-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.  Her husband Tommy predeceased her 37 years ago.  Three brothers, Barney, James and Patrick also predeceased her.

Charlie Browne
The death took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Monday 27th September 2010 of Charlie Browne, (native of Daraghan), Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, Glenties.  His Remains were brought to his daughter’s home on Tuesday and to St. Connell’s Church, Glenties on Thursday morning.  Fr. Pat Prendergast celebrated Requiem Mass at 11 a.m.  Family members did the Readings, Prayers of the Faithful and brought the Gifts to the Altar.  Music and singing was by John F. O’ Donnell and Sinead Finn.  Burial took place in the New Graveyard.  Charlie is survived by his wife, Ann, daughter, Mary, son, John, sister, Mary, grandchildren, in-laws, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended.

Valerie Goldie
The death took place of Valerie Goldie nee Gildea, Derby, U.K. formerly of Mill Road, Glenties on Wednesday 22nd September 2010 after a courageous battle against cancer. Daughter of the late Sofia & Phonsie Gildea, Mill Road. Valerie is survived by her partner Ralph, her son David, his partner Chantal & grandson Kieran, sisters Fidelma & Marina, brothers Martin & Neilly & their families, sister-in-law Eileen & family of her late brother John. The funeral took place on Friday 1st Oct 2010 at St Thomas Church, Ilkeston Derby, followed by cremation at Bramcote Crematoriam. Her ashes will be scattered on the family grave in The New Graveyard, Glen Rd, Glenties. Date to be arranged. Sincere sympathy is offered to all the family & friends.

Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the Byrne family, Maas on the death last week in England of their brother, Danny; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to James, Glen Road, John, Church Road and Eddie Gallagher, Ard Mc Gill, Glenties on the death of their aunt, Philomena Maguire, Edergole, Ardara, which took place in Letterkenny Hospital on Friday 1st October 2010; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to the nieces, nephews and all the relatives and friends of Terence Byrne (formerly of Kilraine, Glenties), who died in England last week.

Christmas Lights – Halloween Ball
The Annual Halloween Ball to help fund the Glenties Christmas Lights is less than three weeks away, so it is time to get your thinking caps on and get your costumes ready for the Fancy Dress Ball.  It will take place again this year in the Highlands Hotel, Glenties on Sunday 24th October.

Playschool

Warmer Homes Scheme
The MFG Warmer Homes Scheme funded by SEAL provides attic and cavity wall insulation to all private households in receipt of fuel allowance living in Glenties and Ardara.  Referrals are also accepted from all health professionals, MABS or St. Vincent de Paul.  This is a free service.

Glenties Variety Concert
Local talent is required for a variety concert to be held in the Highlands Hotel on November 12th.  Anyone out there, young or not so young who would like to take part, don’t be shy call Brigid on 9551824 today.

Christmas Market in Glenties
