New Arrival
Congratulations to Cheryl and Michael Quinn, Straboy, Glenties on the birth recently of their third child, a baby brother (Eoghan) for Shana and Logan.
Boyle / Mc Geehan Wedding
On Saturday 30th May 2009 Charlie Boyle and Danielle Mc Geehan were married in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties. Fr. Adrian Gavigan officiated and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Charlie is a son of James and Gracie Boyle, Glen Road, Glenties and Danielle is a daughter of John and Bernie Mc Geehan, Cheshire, England and granddaughter of Paddy and Mamie Mc Geehan, Derries, Glenties. Her father gave the bride away and her cousins Claire and Kelley Cunningham and friends Natasha Farry and Carol Mc Menamin and Laura Bray attended her. James Boyle, brother of the groom was bestman. David Molloy, Martin Boyle, Barry Keeney and Shaun Cunningham were groomsmen. Erin Bonner, niece of the groom was a flowergirl. Readings were by Caroline Bonner and Emma Boyle, sisters of the groom. Grainne and Rosemary Boyle, Maria Barton-Bates and Trish Peel read Prayers of the Faithful. The mothers of the bride and groom, Bernie McGeehan and Gracie Boyle brought the Gifts to the Altar. Music and singing was by Jennifer and Zara Laughlin. The reception was held in the Mill Park Hotel, Donegal Town and the honeymoon was spent in Mexico.
Tug O War
Well done to Glen of Glenties brothers, Connell, Brendan and Donal Ward who were all pulling in the Lakehill team from Knockmore, Co. Mayo, which recently won the All Ireland Senior Championship at 720 kilo in Mohill, Co. Leitrim. The lads defeated the famous Boley Club from Co. Wexford in the final. The 680kilo national championship takes place in Ballina this coming Sunday 28th June. Connell, Brendan and Donal are sons of John and Kitty Ward Meenavale, Glenties.
Bingo
The winners at the Tuesday night Bingo of last week were – Lisa Coughlan, Glenties won the jackpot of € 400. Gerard Mc Taggart, Angela Martin, Casey Lee Hegarty, May McGowan, Killybegs, Kathleen Griffin, Frosses, Paula Hegarty, Glenties, Nan Craig, Glenties, Patricia Molloy, Glenties, Maggie O’Sullivan, Leitir and Sarah Haughey, Ardara won €100 each. Kathleen Kenny, Sandra Moore, Kitty Mc Glynn, Fintown, Ann Mc Nulty, Anna Cannon, Anne Huston, Casey Lee Hegarty, Julia Molloy, Mary Kate Byrne, Glenties and Valerie Carr, Kilcar won €50 each. Philomena Mc Callaig and Gracie O’ Hara, Killybegs won €25 each. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.
Sympathy
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Eileen Mc Loone, Straboy, Glenties who died on Tuesday 15th June.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the relatives and friends of Michael Mc Ginty, Millside, Fintown who died last week and who was buried in Fintown on Sunday last.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, friends and relatives of Nan O’Donnell, Galway, formerly of Mill Road, Glenties who died in Galway last week. Nan was the wife of Garda Bartley O’ Donnell, who served in Glenties for a number of years.
Sincere sympathy is extended to the family, friends and relatives of Michael Boyle, Strabane, who died last week. Michael was the Leader and Conductor of the Strabane Silver Band, which came to Glenties for many years to take part in our Corpus Christi Procession and was greatly missed when they stopped coming. He also came to the Comprehensive School for many years to teach pupils how to play Brass Instruments.
Sincere sympathy is extended to Mena Gallagher on the death of her brother, Danny Mc Cahill, Lettermacaward which took place on Saturday 20th June 2009.
School Musical
St. Columba’s Comprehensive School Musical Production of “Ulysses”, a light opera, will take place on Thursday 2nd July and Friday 3rd July in collaboration with The University of Ulster and St. Cecelia’s College, Derry. The Church Gate Collection taken up recently amounted to €715.70. The Committee wishes to express their sincere thanks to everyone who made a contribution.
Peace Mass
Medjugorje Peace Mass will be celebrated in St. Connell’s Church, Glenties this Thursday evening 25th June at 8.30 p.m. All are welcome.
Annual Sponsored Walk
The Annual Sponsored Walk in aid of The Kidney Dialysis Unit, Letterkenny Hospital will take place on 18th July. It will depart from the Glen Tavern through the Croaghs at 12 noon.
