Glenties Notes 22nd April 2008

On Saturday 5th April 2008 Evelyn Ward and Charlie Mc Manus were married in St. Conal’s Church, Kilclooney. Evelyn is a daughter of Michael and Mary Ward, Straboy, Glenties and Charlie is a son of Pauric and the late Patricia Mc Manus, Drumshambo, Co. Leitrim. Fr. Paul Gallagher, Glenties assisted by Fr. Peter Burke, Drumshambo officiated and concelebrated Nuptial Mass. Her father gave the bride away and she was attended by her sister Michelle Ward, her cousin, Orla Conaghan and her friend and neighbour, Ann Gildea. Jude Mc Sharry, friend of the groom was bestman. Padraig Mc Manus, the groom’s brother and three friends, Padraig Ryan, Joe Garvan and Aaron Calvin were groomsmen. Sarah Bradley was a flowergirl. Eoin Colleran and John Mc Manus were ushers. Readings were by Andrea Noone, sister of the groom and Crea Gallagher, friend of the bride. Emma Mc Cole, Eoin Ryan, MaryAnn Mc Manus, Margaret Mc Groary, Cathal Moran, Edward Harkin, Paula O’ Donnell, Caitriona Ward and David Walsh read Prayers of the Faithful. The Gifts were brought to the Altar by the bride’s mother, Mary and her aunt, Susan Conaghan. A Reflection was read by the groom’s brother, John. Music and singing was by Charlie Mc Gettigan and the Drumshambo choir. The reception was held in The Solas Hotel, Lough Eske, Donegal Town and the honeymoon is being spent in South Africa.

Congratulations to ten year old Sinead Mc Devitt who, after coming first in Donegal went on to win first in Ireland in the E B S / I N T O Hand-Writing Competition. She will be attending the Prize-Giving Ceremony in E B S Head Office in Dublin next Saturday 26th April. Sinead is a daughter of Seamus and Margaret Mc Devitt, Largnalarkin, and granddaughter of Phil and Nora Gallagher, Buncrubog, Glenties. Well done Sinead.

A Pioneer Mass and Presentation of Pins will take place on Friday 16th May at 7.30 p.m. Any member who feels they are eligible for Golden or Silver Pins should contact any council member on / or before 1st May.

Enrolment Day takes place on Wednesday 30th April 2008 for children wishing to attend St. Riaghan’s N.S. in September 2008. Children are asked to attend with their parents from 11.15 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. It is important that parents bring their child’s Birth Certificate and P.P.S. Number with them on the day and also a small packed lunch for their child, as they will have the opportunity to sample “School Life” while parents meet with the Principal. Sincere sympathy is extended to Ann Sweeney and family, Gortnasillagh, Glenties on the death of Ann’s brother, Packie Mc Gettigan, formerly of Lettermacaward, which took place recently in England; also to all the relatives and friends.

Sincere sympathy is extended to Margaret Mannering and family, Meenahalla on the death of Margaret’s sister Patricia Cole, which took place recently in Scotland.

The Alzheimer’s Coffee / Tea morning will be held in the Glenties Day Centre, Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent on Thursday 1st May from 10.00 a.m. until 12.30 p.m. Come along for a cup and a chat and support this worthy cause.

Congratulations to Helen and J. J. Boyle, Loughnamhradden on the birth recently of their second child, a baby sister for Ava.

Dr. Kevin Bonner has moved to the new Day Centre. He will be there on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2.00 – 3.00 p.m. Mary Kelly (Social Welfare Officer) has also moved to the new centre. She is there on Wednesdays from 10.00 – 10.30 a.m.
