County Champions
Congratulations to the Boys and Girls Teams from Scoil Mhuire, Glenties, who won the County Finals of Cumann na mBun Scoil Competition in Glenswilly on Wednesday 11th May 2011. The girls beat St. Mary’s N. S. Castlefin and the boys beat Tooban N.S. Burt. On Thursday 12th May the girls were again successful in the County Final of the FAI Schools Competition in Ballyare, Letterkenny. Well done boys and girls.
First Holy Communion
Congratulations to the boys and girls who received their First Holy Communion in St. Connell Church, Glenties on Saturday 7th May 2011. They were – Kilkenny N.S. – Eoin Sharkey. Scoil Mhuire – Mark Campbell, Max Fisher, Grainne Agnew, Aine McNelis, Aoise Doherty, Orla O’Donnell, Elizabeth Gill, Aidan Gilroy, Nadine Furey, Aodhán Gavigan, Daniel Gildea, Emma Doherty, Karla Doherty, Caitlin Ward, Neil Francis Boyle, Holly Ward, Adam Molloy, Jack Boyle and Robbie Mc Donnell. Congratulations also to those who received their First Holy Communion in The Church of the Holy Family, Edeninfagh on Sunday 8th May – Elaine Campbell, Odhran McCaillig, Cormac Quinn, Darragh Doherty and James Michael Doran; and to those who received their First Holy Communion in St. Colmcille’s Church Fintown on Saturday 14th May – Aoife Ní Bhaoill, Eibhlin Ní Bhaoill, Grainne Quinn, Rebecca Wright, Chloe Mc Keown, Megan Mc Geehan, Shauna Boyle, Aoife Mongan, Michael Mc Kelvey, Cahir Mc Devitt and Matthew Gibbons.
Bingo
The winners at the Bingo in the Community Centre, Glenties on Tuesday 10th May were – Mary Mc Mahon won the Jackpot of € 400. Marian Ward, Mary Mc Neely, Donegal, Kitty Carron, Dungloe, Mary Mc Mahon, Denise Campbell, Vera Breslin, Mary Mc Gill, Bernadette Mc Devitt, Annmarie Cunningham, and Bernie Fitzpatrick won € 100 each. Nancy Dorrian, Brigid Mc Cabe, Frosses, Denise Campbell, Anne Quinn, E. Langan, Susie Cunningham, Mary Mc Mahon, Fiona Gallagher, Mary Bonner and Joseph Martin won € 50 each. Anne Furey and Anne Byrne won € 25 each.
The Late Sonny Hanlon
The death took place peacefully at his home in Dr. Mc Closkey Crescent, on Monday 2nd May 2011 of Sonny Hanlon formerly of Tullyard Glenties. His Remains were brought to the Parish Church, Church Road, Glenties on Wednesday afternoon. Rev. John Deane and Rev. Michael Classon conducted the Funeral Service and officiated at the graveside. Burial took place in the adjoining graveyard after the Service. Sonny is survived by his son, Louie, daughter-in-law Joan, brother, Richard, sister-in-law, Susan, nieces, nephews other relatives and friends to whom sincere sympathy is extended. His wife Annie died in January 2006 and his brother, Willie died in December 2010. Three other brothers, Tom, Alec and Charlie and two sisters, Bella and Cathy also predeceased him. Sonny was the eldest of the family and Alec and Bella were twins.
Rector’s Challenge – Charity Cycle
It’s that time of year again! The Rector’s Challenge begins in Glencolmcille going via Ardara, Glenties, Portnoo and finishing in Lettermacaward on Saturday 28th May. Proceeds of the cycle go to the Church of Ireland and the Tidy Towns. Registration is in Glencolmcille at 11 a.m. sharp. For more details ring Ella on 9551295 or Mairead on 9551904.
Community Employment Scheme

The Missionary Sisters of St. Peter Claver wish to thank all those who contributed to their recent Church Collection. A total of € 1,533.32 was raised. The money will be used to help those who are dying and street children in the Third World.
